Arm Lift in Miami, FL

Love Your Curves

Saggy skin or tissue under the upper arms can occur due to stretched skin after weight loss or as part of the aging process. These “bat wings” can be embarrassing, and many people try to hide their flabby arms under longer sleeves or loose clothing. Brachioplasty, or arm lift plastic surgery, is a body contouring procedure that can remove excess skin and tighten the upper arms for a more attractive, toned appearance. Dr. Mendieta at 4Beauty Aesthetic Institute for Plastic Surgery can reshape and tighten the upper arms with brachioplasty surgery at our facility in Miami, FL.

Am I a Candidate for Brachioplasty?

The skin on the upper arms can stretch with weight gain and loss of collagen in the skin, as a result of aging. This can result in looser, sagging skin. If you have drooping skin or tissue under the upper arms, exercise and diet alone are usually not effective in tightening the skin.

Good candidates for brachioplasty have excess skin on the upper arms that is affecting their appearance, comfort or self-confidence. To safely undergo arm lift plastic surgery, patients should be in good health. And avoid using tobacco products and certain medications in the weeks before surgery.

How is an Arm Lift Performed?

Brachioplasty surgery (or arm lift plastic surgery) is performed under sedation. Dr. Mendieta will discuss the types of anesthesia used before your surgery. To remove the excess skin and tissue, an incision is made on the underside of the upper arm.

There are different techniques that can be used to hide the incision and scar, and the size of the incision depends on the extent of sagging skin and tissue. Some arm lift procedures will require liposuction to remove fatty tissue, along with excision of excess skin.

Dr. Mendieta will use his expertise to minimize the size and appearance of the incision and scar while creating a tighter and more youthful upper arm appearance.

What Is Brachioplasty Recovery Like?

After arm lift surgery, the arms are wrapped in bandages and compression garments. The compression garments help reduce swelling and assist the skin and tissue to reshape as the arm heals. Some patients may have a drain inserted to release excess fluids from the surgical site.

In the following days after surgery, patients usually have mild to moderate pain, which can be controlled with prescribed pain medications. Exparel is also option for reducing pain during surgical procedures, but will be an additional cost. Dr. Mendieta can recommend topical applications to reduce the appearance of scars while healing.

Most patients are able to return to work or most normal activities a week after arm lift surgery. You may need to wear compression garments to improve the healing process, even after the bandages are removed. Exercise and strenuous activities are restricted for four weeks after surgery, but most activities can be resumed after one month.

Arm Lift FAQs

How much does brachioplasty cost?

Arm lift plastic surgery costs depend on the type of procedure performed; and the extent of excess skin and fatty tissue that need to be removed. You will be given a cost estimate at your initial consultation. However, if necessary, there are some great options available for financing your procedure.

Is arm lift surgery an outpatient procedure?

Yes. The procedure only takes about 2-3 hours, and most patients go home the same day; after a recovery period at our facility in Miami.

Will I have visible scars from brachioplasty?

There are incisions needed for brachioplasty surgery, but Dr. Mendieta will hide them as much as possible. Scars can be minimized with the use of topical creams or silicone sheets.

When will I see the results of my arm lift surgery?

Your arms will experience swelling after surgery, but this will dissipate drastically over the first four weeks. The change in the contours and firmness of the arms are immediate but obscured by swelling. The appearance of the arms will continue to change as the arms heal and the skin firms over the following months.
